OUR HISTORY
In the late 1970’s Bishop Jean E. Vincent and Reverend Marie Y. Vincent were called by God to plant a church and begin a ministry for the Haitian people in Philadelphia, PA. During that time, they resided in Queens, NY, and served at Bishop Honore Jacque’s church. Years later they were sent to Bishop Emmanuel Blanchard to assist him in planting a church in Queens, NY. Bishop Vincent and Reverend Marie Y. Vincent remained at Queens Church of God and served a great deal in this ministry. Due to them being faithful and consistent, God trusted them with a bigger project. In 1976, they moved from New York to Philadelphia, PA and planted a church. This ministry would later grow into one of the largest Haitian church in the community.
The Haitian community in Philadelphia at that time was small and spread all over the city. As difficult as that task was, they did not resist, they took their five children at the time and some members from the Saint Fort family and moved to Philadelphia, PA. Bishop Vincent and Reverend Marie Y. Vincent worked tirelessly as they evangelized all over Philadelphia to fulfill the task they had before them. They began services in the Polche’s family living until God Blessed them with a small building in Lansdowne Avenue in Philadelphia. A few months later the Haitian Church of God of Philadelphia was birthed. After many months of challenging work and dedication, people began to join and support the ministry. Some years later the building in Lansdowne became too small for their congregation. After many weeks of prayers and fasting the Lord blessed Vincent’s and their congregation with a bigger building on Lancaster Avenue also known as The First Haitian Church of God of Philadelphia. We are also extremely thankful to the Lord for Bishop and the late Rev. Marie Y. Vincent’s obedience. It’s because they said yes to the Lord we can say today that 90% of the Haitian churches in Philadelphia were birthed from Bishop Vincent and Reverend Marie Vincent’s ministry. We must and will continue to press forth to keep their legacy alive and fulfill God’s promise for this ministry.
We honor Bishop Jean Vincent and the late Rev Marie Vincent today and we thank the Lord for such amazing leaders.
